The Sea of Galilee

Jesus spent a great time deal of time around the Sea of Galilee. A good share of His followers lived along its northern coast and made their living by fishing in its waters. One of His followers, a tax collector, had his booth there to get Rome's money as the men came in from their work.

Some interesting things happened on this lake to those who put their faith in Jesus. One time He calmed a storm. The topography is made for squalls to come up suddenly, without warning. Higher mountains to the north with cooler air come down valleys and blow into this warm basin of water. Jesus stopped the storm quicker than it came up, in an instant, and left these men wondering, "What kind of man is this that even the winds and the waves obey Him?!"

Another time they were out in the boat struggling against the wind while Jesus was in the mountains praying. He looked out, saw them and walked on the water to them. He got into the boat and the winds calmed down.

Still another instance comes to mind. The disciples had fished all night and caught nothing. He told them to launch out into the deep and let down their nets. They obeyed and the catch was so great that the nets began to tear.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

If you have followed Him for any length of time you know first hand how He can calm a storm in our life or bring us through it. You know how He comes to us in our struggles and helps us. You know about following what He says to do and how He performs miracles. You have that hope for today and until the day you see Him face to face.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (I John 3.1)
