Spring Showers

Upon the daffodils and hyacinth and the swamp buttercup in bloom out back a gentle spring shower is falling this morning. I potted a few pansies to brighten up the yard yesterday.

Gardeners chuckle at non gardeners who complain about the rain. We know how vital it is to our work. We also know that rain means better watering and less work for us.

The early spring rains are welcome here and in every garden in the world.

Sprinter Clean Up Continues

This mild winter we are having on Long Island has been renamed Sprinter- a combination of winter and spring. We are about a month ahead in growth and blooms.

The crocus have been blooming for a number of weeks (before Valentine's Day!) The snow drops are blooming. We have seen some daffodils in bloom already and now the other perennials are up, including the water plants in the pond.

With the mild temperatures comes the spring clean up. We leave the dead Daylily growth around the plants through the winter. There are leaves that have found their way back into the yard and dead grass that needs to be thatched out. This is all under way in the backyard.

With apologies to the groundhog, this year we are celebrating sprinter, spring has sprung!
