Crocuses

My granddaughter, Emma, and I plan to plant some more crocuses tomorrow. Over the past few years we put in some of various shapes. Tomorrow she wants to do a diamond, so that is what we will do. We plant them right in the lawn. They bloom way before we start cutting the grass in the spring. How did life get to be so much fun?... one word: Grandchildren!

Castaway

I decided to watch another Tom Hanks movie last night. I got half way through it and needed to go to bed. So this evening I finished it. Castaway played an important place in my life years ago. A few of my friends urged me to rent it, I ended up buying it and I am glad I did. I have watched it a number of times.

It is the closing scenes that gripped my heart. When Chuck is explaining to his friend and coworker about being on that deserted island, some heavy dialog ensues. Those lines where he speaks about needing to keep breathing ae poignant. I'm paraphrasing: I never thought I would get off that island. I just kept breathing and one day the tide brought in a sail so I could leave. I know what I need to do now. I need to keep breathing because tomorrow the sun is going rise and who knows what the tide may bring in?

It could be as you read these words all hope seems to be gone. Perhaps your life is in disarray. Maybe you are grieving the loss of someone you love. Maybe life has brought you to a place you never dreamed you would be at. Keep breathing. Tomorrow the sun will rise and who knows what the tide will bring in?

In The Family Room

What do you do when the love of your life is on the other side of the world on a Saturday evening? What do you do when you you have been sick all week and you need to rest a little before a big day tomorrow? That is my situation this evening. Lucy is in China. I am slowly recovering from being wiped out by a flu like illness.

I am watching one of my favorite movies as I write this. It is "You've Got Mail" starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, It takes place in the city. It is a romantic comedy, my favorite genre. It takes place in the fall, my favorite time of the year,

I'm sitting here in our family room, which more recently has become a treasure trove of all kind of toys and DVDs and books for our grandchildren. Just the other night Emma and I watched Annie here.

For this evening I am watching a great movie, thinking of the one I love and how much I love living here in New York and how good life is!

Tulip Planting Today

The shortsighted gardener is done until next spring. Those who like early spring
colors continue to plant this month.

Early this morning 21 tulip bulbs went into a new bed I have been working on. Like these in the picture these bulbs will burst into gorgeous blooms
this spring. They bloom in April.

Plant some beauty in someone's heart today. Tell them how much you love them and appreciate them. You will both feel good!

Feeding the Fish

Three of my grandchildren helped me fed the fish in the pond yesterday morning. Emma is a veteran at it so she helped Lili and Tristan. They loved seeing the fish come and get their food. Emma's mom, my friend John Foster and I put the pond in over 14 years ago. Kids as well as kids at heart have enjoyed the simple fun of feeding these beautiful creatures outback.

Reflections of One Extraordinary Day

People gathered on the front lawn of the church yesterday afternoon for a celebration of my grandson's life. We had a reception party afterwards in a beautiful park. I am still basking in the wonder of it all, thinking about the goodness of God and how blessed I am to have my children and grandchildren so close.

Another China Connection

We'll be heading to Kennedy in 12 hours for Lucy to board a Korean Air flight to Seoul and then onto Changchun, China. Her family anxiously awaits her arrival. She will be greatly missed. As for Moe (our faithful dog) and I, we will "bach" it while she is there.
I am thinking of my trip to China 4 years ago at this time. It was a grand adventure. I know Lucy will have a wonderful time. I have a blog for our connection with that land. It is http://larryschinaconnection.blogspot.com/

Thunder and Rain

It is a wet Saturday. This morning's rain and wind was such a wonderful sound to wake up to. Now we are getting some thunder and lightning. I will have to temporarily postpone my morning project of putting in a new tulip bed. That's okay. There are lots of inside projects to do.

Many complain about the rain
But to the gardeners it is grand
The sight and the sound of it
Watering the earth's land
Life is a lot like todays' storm
Interruptions in our plan
Things taking place
Out of the control of man
Peace and joy are found
Not in what we cannot change
But in One Who does not.
